Safety Apparel
Choose visibility apparel for the jobsite
Start with your employer’s jobsite hazard assessment. Traffic speed, distance from vehicles, lighting, weather and the tasks workers perform all affect the choice. Check the garment label for the required ANSI/ISEA 107 type and performance class.
Enhanced Visibility
Bright short- and long-sleeve shirts, hats and beanies help people stand out. Common users include shopping cart retrievers, parking attendants, delivery drivers, dog walkers and joggers. A bright shirt also works as a uniform, a base layer under rated outerwear or a change of clothing for breaks. Bright color alone does not establish an ANSI rating.
ANSI Class 2
Class 2 shirts and vests combine high-visibility background material with reflective markings. Roadway and survey crews, toll personnel, rail and forestry workers, airport ground crews and crossing guards may use Class 2 garments where the jobsite assessment calls for them. Consider how close workers are to moving vehicles and how often their tasks draw their attention away from traffic.
ANSI Class 3
Class 3 garments provide more visible material and help drivers recognize a person in motion. Road crews, surveyors, construction vehicle operators, rail workers and flaggers may need this level where faster traffic, short sight lines or demanding tasks increase exposure.
Shirts, vests and headwear
Compare short- and long-sleeve shirts with or without a chest pocket, safety vests, caps and knit beanies. Match the rating on the specific garment to your site requirements. Headwear is an accessory and cannot replace a required rated garment.
